Ahmedabad is called the "Manchester of India'. Its situated on the banks of the Sabarmati River in the state of Gujarat. This city was founded by Ahmad Shah in 1411.

Coimbatore is known as the 'Manchester of South India'. It is located in the state of Tamil Nadu. Due to large cotton production and a number textile mill in the state, it is called the "Manchester of South India".

The first cotton mill in India was established in 1854 at Tardeo, which is in Maharashtra. It was the first successful Textile mill in India. The cotton textile mills were concentrated in the western parts of the country like Maharashtra and Gujarat, while the jute industries were concentrated in the Bengal.

Bauxite is an ore of aluminium. Its color is found to be white-pink or red depending on the amount of iron. It is used as a raw material in the aluminium production. As per the data for the year 2018-19 (P). the top three bauxite-producing states are Odisha. Jharkhand, and Gujarat in that order.

The Iron and steel plant is located in Bhilai, Chattisgarh while the factories of cotton textile industry are mainly located in cities like Kanpur, Etawah, Modi nagar, Bareilly etc. in North India.

Sher Shah Suri built the Shahi (Royal) road to strengthen and consolidate his empire from the Indus Valley to the Sonar Valley in Bengal. This road was renamed the Grand Trunk (GT) road during the British period, connecting Calcutta and Peshawar. At present, it extends from Amritsar to Kolkata. It is bifurcated into two segments: (a) National High- way(NH)-1 from Amritsar to New Delhi, and (b) NH-2 from New Delhi to Kolkata.

The national highway network connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata is called Golden Quadrilateral. The Golden Quadrilateral is a national highway network connecting most of India's major industrial, agricultural and cultural centres.

The Diamond Quadrilateral is a project of the Indian Railways to establish a high-speed rail net- work in India. The Diamond Quadrilateral will connect the four mega cities of India, viz. Del- hi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, similar to the Golden Quadrilateral highway system.
