Total Questions: 60

11. Battery percent of a phone is reduced from 80% to 56% in 15 min of usage. If decay in battery percent is constant, then find the battery percent after 24 min of usage if current battery percent is 70%.

Correct Answer: (a) 31.6%
Solution:

Decay in battery percent in 15 min = 80 - 56 = 24%
Decay in battery percent in 1 min = (24/15)%
Decay in battery percent in 24 min = (24/15) × 24
= 38.4%
Battery percent after 24 min of usage when current percent is 70% = 70 - 38.4 = 31.6%

12. Minal have some amount of money in her purse and after spending 10% on food, 18% on transport, 6% on movies and 16% on shopping, then she left with Rs. 3000 in her purse. How much money she had initially in her purse?

Correct Answer: (c) Rs. 6000
Solution:

Let Minal have Rs. X initially.
After spending she left with = Rs. 3000
X × (100 - 10 - 18 - 6 - 16)/100 = 3000
⇒ X = 100/50 × 3000
⇒ X = Rs. 6000

13. The monthly income of Priya is Rs.20,000. Rs.1800 is charged by the company for transportation and 8% of her income is cut on a monthly basis as a saving from the company itself from her salary. What is the percentage of payment she received after all cut from the monthly income?

Correct Answer: (d) 83 %
Solution:

Income of Priya per month = Rs.20000
Charged for Transportation = Rs.1800
For saving = (8/100) × 20000 = Rs.1600
Total cut in the payment = 1800 + 1600 = Rs.3400
Payment of Priya per month = 20000 - 3400
= Rs.16600
Required percentage = (16600/20000) × 100
= 166/2 = 83 %

14. In a library there are 30% of the books in English and 40% of the rest in Hindi. The remaining 10800 books are in other languages. How many books are there in Hindi?

Correct Answer: (c) 7200
Solution:

Let the total number of books in the library = 100
Number of books in English = 30
Number of books in Hindi = 70 × 40% = 28
Number of books in other languages = 42
When the number of books in other languages is 42, the number of books in Hindi = 28
When the number of books in other languages is 10800, the number of books in Hindi =
28 × 10800/42 = 7200.

15. If a dairy mixes cow's milk which contains 14.28% fat with buffalo's milk which contains 33.33% fat, then the resulting mixture has fat 25%. What is the respective ratio in which the cow's milk was mixed with the buffalo's milk?

Correct Answer: (c) 7: 9
Solution:

14.28% ≈ 1/7
33.33% ≈ 1/3
25% = 1/4
By using the Alligation method.
Hence, the respective ratio in which the cow's milk was mixed with the buffalo's milk = 7 : 9

16. Third number is 20 % less and 30 % more than the first and second numbers respectively. The sum of all the given numbers is 471. Find the third number.

Correct Answer: (e) 156
Solution:

Let the third number be Z
Second number = Y
And the first number = X
Z = [1 - (20/100)] × X
Z = 0.8 X
10 Z = 8X
5 Z = 4X ……(1)

Z = [1 + (30/100)] × Y
Z = 1.3 Y
10 Z = 13 Y ……(2)

X + Y + Z = 471
(5Z/4) + (10Z/13) + Z = 471
(65Z + 40Z + 52Z) = 471×52
157 Z = 471 × 52
Z = 3×52 = 156

17. In the math exam Adarsh got 30% marks and failed by 10 marks. If he had got 60% marks, he would have secured 20 marks more than the passing marks. Then, passing marks is what percent of the marks which is 60% more than half of the total marks?

Correct Answer: (c) 50%
Solution:

Let total marks be 100x.
Passing marks = 30/100 × 100x + 10
Also, Passing marks = 60/100 × 100x - 20
60/100 × 100x = 20 + 30x + 10
30x = 30
x = 1
Total marks = 100
60% more than half of the total marks
= 160% of 50 = 80
Passing marks = 30% of 100 + 10 = 30 + 10 = 40
Required percentage = 40/80 × 100 = 50%

18. In a fraction, when the numerator is increased by 20% and the denominator is decreased by 10%, the numerator becomes twice the denominator. Find that numerator was what percent of denominator initially?

Correct Answer: (d) 150%
Solution:

Let the fraction = x/y.
So, 120% of x = 2 × (90% of y)
x × (120/100) = 2 × y × (90/100)
x/y = 3/2
Required percentage = (3/2) × 100 = 150

19. The ratio of total votes in House T to total votes obtained by the winning candidate in House T is 5:3 respectively. The winning candidate got 60% of the total votes in House P. The total votes in House P are twice the total votes of House T. If the difference between the total votes of House P and the total votes got by the winning candidate in both Houses is 10. Then find the total votes in House T.

Correct Answer: (b) 50
Solution:Let the total votes and votes got by the winner in House T be 5x and 3x respectively.
Total votes in House P = 2 × 5x = 10x
Votes with winning candidate in both the houses =
3x + 10x × 60/100 = 9x
10x - 9x = x = 10
Required votes = 5 × 10 = 50

20. There are 'n' persons in a society out of which 78% are literate. 60% population of society are males. The difference between the female and illiterate population is 126. Find the value of 'n'.

Correct Answer: (a) 700
Solution:

Here, total population = n
Female population = (100 - 60)% of n = 2n/5
Illiterate population = (100 - 78)% of n = 11n/50
Now, (2n/5) - (11n/50) = 126
n = 700
