BANK & INSURANCE (PERCENTAGE) PART 1

Total Questions: 60

21. In a bank, there is a total of 700 employees. The ratio of 50% of female employees to 60% of male employees is 25:12. Find the difference between the total number of males and females working in the bank.

Correct Answer: (c) 300
Solution:Let the number of males and females be m and f respectively.
m + f = 700
(f×50/100) / (60/100 × m) = 25/12
5f/6m = 25/12
f/m = 5/2
Required difference = 700/7 × 5 - 700/7 × 2 = 300

22. If the earnings of B are 100% more than the earnings of A and the earnings of C are 50% more than the earnings of B such that the difference between the earnings of B and C is Rs.1000, then find the difference between the earnings of A and B.

Correct Answer: (d) Rs.1000
Solution:

Let earning of A be 100x
Earning of B = 200/100 × 100x = 200x
Earning of C = 150/100 × 200x = 300x
300x - 200x = 100x = 1000
x = 10
Required difference = 200x - 100x = 100x
= Rs.1000

23. Ram's father gave him 50% of his total salary. Ram spent 20% amount on rent, 30% on education, 20% on entertainment and the remaining Rs.30 kept as his saving. Find the difference between the amount spent by Ram on rent and his father's salary.

Correct Answer: (c) Rs.180
Solution:

Let the father's salary be Rs.100x
Money given to Ram = ½ × 100x = 50x
Money spent on rent = 20/100 × 50x = 10x
Money spent on education = 30/100 × 50x = 15x
Money spent on entertainment = 20/100 × 50x = 10x
Savings = 50x - 10x - 15x - 10x = 30
40x - 15x - 10x = 30
15x = 30
x = 2
Required difference
= 100 × 2 - 10 × 2 = 200 - 20 = Rs.180

24. A number is increased by 40% and then decreased by 10% and the number becomes 130 more than the original number, then what is the square root of 5 times of the original number?

Correct Answer: (b) 50
Solution:Let original number = x
According to the question
x × 140/100 × 90/100 = 130 + x
=> 0.26x = 130
=> x = 130/0.26
=> x = 500
So, the square root of 5 times the original number = √(5 × 500) = 50

25. Minimum qualifying marks for college A and college B are 40% and 50% respectively. If a boy got 45 marks in college A and scored 5 marks more than the qualifying marks. Find 10% of qualifying marks of college B, if the maximum marks of the exam are the same for both colleges.

Correct Answer: (c) 5
Solution:

Let total marks be 100x
Passing marks for college A = 40/100 × 100x = 40x
Passing marks for college B = 50/100 × 100x = 50x
45 = 5 + 40x
40 = 40x
x = 1
Required value = 10/100 × 50 = 5

26. Sum of three numbers A, B, and C is 486. If half of the value of a, 1/3rd of the value of B, and 25% of the value of C are equal, then what is the value of C?

Correct Answer: (b) 216
Solution:

Let A/2 = B/3 = C/4 = k
So, A = 2k, B = 3k, and C = 4k
And A + B + C = 486
=> 2k + 3k + 4k = 486
=> 9k = 486
=> k = 54
Hence, value of C = 4 × 54 = 216

27. When the price of honey increases by 30%, Thor increases his expenditure on honey by 17%. Find the percentage decrease in the consumption of honey by Thor.

Correct Answer: (b) 10%
Solution:

Let the original price of honey be Rs.100 per kg.
Let the original consumption of honey be 1 kg.
Then, Thor's original expenditure = Rs.100
New price of the honey = (13/10) × 100 = Rs.130 per kg
Let Thor's new consumption be ‘t’ kg.
Thor's new expenditure = (117/100) × 100
= Rs.117
As we know that, Price × consumption = Expenditure
=> 130 × t = 117
=> t = 117/130 = 9/10 = 0.9 kg
Hence, required % decrease in the consumption =
{(1 - 0.9)/1} × 100 = 10%

28. A person has some notes of different-different denominations. The ratio of the number of notes of Rs. 10 to Rs. 5 is 2:1 respectively. Rs.20 notes are 50% of the Rs.10 notes. The total value of Rs.5 notes is Rs.50. Then find the total value of Rs.20 notes.

Correct Answer: (b) Rs.200
Solution:

Let the number of Rs.10 and Rs.5 rupee notes be 2x and x respectively.
According to question
5 × x = 50
x = 10
Number of 10 rupee notes = 20
Number of 20 rupee notes = ½ × 20 = 10
Required value = 10 × 20 = Rs.200

29. X and Y have some toys in the ratio of 2:1. If toys with X decrease by 25% and toys with Y increases by 100, then they both have equal toys. What are the initial toys with X?

Correct Answer: (a) 400
Solution:

Let initial toys with X be 2x
initial toys with Y be x
According to the question, we have
2x × 75/100 = x + 100
3/2 x = x + 100
½ x = 100
x = 200
Toys with X = 2 × x = 400

30. What will be the percentage increase in the area of a rectangle if the length is increased by 20% and the breadth is increased by 30%?

Correct Answer: (c) 56%
Solution:

For two-dimensional figures, the net change is given
by = x + y + xy/100
=> Where x and y are the percentage increase or decreases in the sides
=> 20 + 30 + 20 × 30/100
=> 56%
