Total Questions: 60

1. In a survey of prime membership users on four major platforms, it is found that out of the total prime members 20% are on Amazon Prime, 50% of the remaining are on Netflix premium and 30% of the remaining are on Hotstar premium and the rest 6300 are on Youtube premium. Then find the total number of prime members on these major platforms.

Correct Answer: (d) 22500
Solution:Let the total number of prime members on all major platforms = x
Prime members on Amazon Prime
= 20% of x = 1/5x
Prime members on Netflix Premium
= 50% of 4/5x = 2/5x
Prime members on Hotstar premium
= 30% of 2/5x = 3x/25
According to question,
x (1/5x + 2/5x + 3x/25) = 6300
7x/25 = 6300
x = 22500
Total number of prime members = 22500

2. A man invested Rs. 40000 in stock exchange and his amount increases by 20% per day in first two days, decreases 20% next day, remains constant the next day and again increases by 10% per day in the next two days. Find his percentage increment of the amount at the end of 6 days?

Correct Answer: (b) 39.39%
Solution:

Total Amount after 6 days = original amount ×
(increment 20% in 1st and 2nd day) × (decrement 20% in 3rd day) × (remains constant in 4th day) ×
(increment 10% for 5th and 6th day)
⇒ Total Amount after 6 days = 40000 × 1.2 × 1.2 × 0.8 × 1 × 1.1 × 1.1
⇒ 40000 × 1.44 × 0.8 × 1.21
⇒ 4 × 144 × 121 × 0.8

⇒ 55756.8
∴ % increment = (55756.8 − 40000)/40000 × 100
= 15756.8/40000 = 39.39%

3. Jeet gets some money from her grandmother, he spends 25% of the amount in buying chocolates and 40% of the remaining in buying a T- shirt and rest of the money he gives to his mother if the difference between the amount he gives his mother and amount he spends on buying chocolates is Rs.140. What is the amount he got from his grandmother?

Correct Answer: (c) Rs. 700
Solution:

Let the money Jeet gets from her grandmother be Rs.100x
He spends 25% of the amount in buying chocolates
∴ Amount left with Jeet
= (100x − (25/100) × 100x) = 75x
He spend 40% of the remaining in buying a T-shirt
∴ Amount left with him
= (75x − (40/100) × 75x) = 45x
Amount he spent on buying chocolates
= (25/100) × 100x = 25x : According to question
⇒ 45x − 25x = 140
⇒ 20x = 140
⇒ x = 7
∴ Amount he got from his grandmother
= 100 × 7 = Rs.700

4. The total number of males and females in a town is 70,000. If the number of males is increased by 6% and that of the females is increased by 4%, then the total numbers of males and females in the town would become 73520. What is the difference between the number of males and females in the town, in the beginning?

Correct Answer: (e) 2000
Solution:

Let the number of males be x.
Numbers of females = (70000 − x)

Total number of males and females in the town increased by = 73520 − 70000 = 3520
According to the question,
x × (6/100) + [(70000 − x) × (4/100)] = 3520
0.06x + 2800 − 0.04x = 3520
0.02x = 3520 − 2800 = 720
x = 720/0.02 = 36000
Number of males = 36000
Number of females = 70000 − 36000 = 34000
Required difference = 36000 − 34000 = 2000

5. In a school, seats for class 9th, 10th and 11th were in the ratio of 8 : 10 : 12. But the management decided to increase the number of seats from next academic year by 30%, 40%, and 50% respectively. Find the ratio of increased seats?

Correct Answer: (b) 26 : 35 : 45
Solution:

Let the number of seats for class 9th, 10th and 11th respectively = 8x, 10x, 12x Number of increase seats for class 9th, 10th and 11th respectively ⇒ (130% of 8x), (140% of 10x) and (150% of 12x)
⇒ (130/100 × 8x), (140/100 × 10x) and (150/100 × 12x)
⇒ (52x/5), (14x) and (18x)
Required ratio,
⇒ 52x/5 : 14x : 18x
⇒ 52x : 70x : 90x
⇒ 26 : 35 : 45
∴ The ratio of increased seats is 26 : 35 : 45.

6. Elections were held in a society to elect a chairman. There were only two candidates A and B. Candidate B got 25% less votes than candidate A. The number of members who did not cast the vote was same as the number of votes that candidate B got. By how many votes did A win if the society had 20,000 members.

Correct Answer: (d) 2000
Solution:

Let the number of votes A got be x
Number of votes B got = (100 − 25)/100 × x = 0.75x
Number of members who did not cast vote = number of votes B got = 0.75x Total number of people = 20000
⇒ x + 0.75x + 0.75x = 20000
⇒ 2.5x = 20000
⇒ x = 20000/2.5 = 8000
Number of votes by which A won = x − 0.75x = 0.25x
⇒ 0.25 × 8000 = 2000

7. A panchayat election was held in Jhajjar district. In the elections, 20% of voters did not cast their vote and 4% were declared invalid. The winning candidate got 6144 votes which were equal to 62.5% of the total valid votes. The total number of enrolled voters is:

Correct Answer: (c) 12800
Solution:Let the total number of enrolled voters = x
number of casted votes = 80/100 × x
Also, 4% of votes were invalid.
no. of invalid votes = 4/100 × 80x/100 = 16x/500
no. of valid votes = 80x/100 16x/500
400x 16x / 500
384x/500
The winning candidate got 62.5% votes equal to 6144 votes
384x/500 × 62.5/100 = 6144
x = 6144 × 500 × 100 / 384 × 62.5
x = 16 × 20 × 4 × 10
x = 12800
Total number of voters enrolled is 12800

8. Out of 1000 students, 57% students passed in English, 44% students passed in Hindi and 56% students passed in Geography. Also, 21% students passed in both English and Hindi, 20% students passed in both Hindi and Geography and 21% students passed in both English and Geography. If 5% students passed in all three subjects. The percentage of students passed in only English is –

Correct Answer: (a) 20%
Solution:The students passed only in both English and Hindi = (21 − 5)% = 16%

The students passed only in both Hindi & Geography = (20 − 5)% = 15%

The students passed only in both Geography & English = (21 − 5)% = 16%

The number of students passed in only English = 57% (16% + 5% + 16%) = 20%

9. Suresh opened his factory in 2003.The production of his factory increases for two consecutive years consistently by 12% and in the third year it decreases by 8%. Again in the next two years it increases by 12% each year and decreases by 8% in the third year. What will be the effect on the production of the Company in 2007?

Correct Answer: (d) 29%
Solution:

Suppose the production of the company in the year 2003 is x. Then production of the company in year 2007
⇒ x × 112/100 × 112/100 × 92/100 × 112/100
⇒ 1.29 x

Increase percentage in the production of factory in 2007
⇒ (1.29x − x)/x × 100
⇒ 29%
∴ The production of the Company in 2007 is increased by 29%.

10. In an election between two candidates, 70% of the voters cast their votes, out of which 1% of the votes were declared invalid. A candidate got 8316 votes which were 60% of the valid votes. Find the total number of votes enrolled in that election

Correct Answer: (b) 20,000
Solution:

Let the total number of votes enrolled be X
Then, Number of votes cast = 70% of X
Now, valid votes = 99% of (70% of X)
So, number of votes the winning candidate got
= 60% of [99% of (70% of X)] = 8,316 = (60/100)×(99/100)×(70/100)×X
⇒ X = 20,000
∴ Total number of votes enrolled in that election is 20,000
