Total Questions: 60

21. The salary of a person is increased by Rs. 9600 and the rate of income tax is decreased by 2% from 12% to 10%. The effect is such that he is now paying the same income tax as before. If in both cases, the standard tax (another tax) deduction is fixed at 20% of the total income, find the increased salary.

Correct Answer: (d) Rs.57600
Solution:Let the original salary of person be x
12% of x = (x + 9600) × 10%
0.12x = 0.1x + 960
0.02x = 960
x = 960/0.02 = Rs.48000
Increased salary = 48000 + 9600 = Rs.57600

22. Samar spends 25% of his income on Education and 50% of rest on food. The respective ratio of the amount spent by Samar on travel and his savings is 5:1 and his savings are approx. 5.2631% of his total income. Finally, he spends on shopping is Rs. 13500. Find the difference between the amount he spends on Education and food.

Correct Answer: (c) Rs. 28500
Solution:

Let the income of Samar = 19a
So his savings = 19a × 5.2631% = 1/19 × 19a = a
Amount spent on travel = 5 × a = 5a
Amount spent on Education = 25% of 19a = 4.75a
Amount spent on food = 50% of 75% of 19a
= 7.125a
Amount spent on Shopping = 19a - (a + 5a + 4.75a + 7.125a) = 1.125a
So, 1.125a = 13500
So, value of a = 12000
Required difference = (7.125a - 4.75a) = 2.375a
= 2.375 × 12000 = Rs. 28500

23. There are three car showrooms X, Y and Z. Ratio of total cars in X, Y and Z is 5 : 7 : 8 respectively. In showroom X, 36% of total cars are petrol cars. In showroom Y, the number of petrol cars is 75% less than the number of electric cars of showroom Y. In showroom Z, the ratio of electric cars to petrol cars is 16:9. Then, find the total number of petrol cars is what percentage more or less than the total number of electric cars in all showrooms together. (Note:- only two types of car(Petrol and Electric) in all the showroom). (Approximately)

Correct Answer: (a) 56%
Solution:

Let the number of cars in showroom X, Y and Z be 5x, 7x and 8x respectively.
Number of petrol cars in showroom X = 5x × 36/100
=> 1.8x
Number of electric cars in showroom X = 5x - 1.8x
=> 3.2x
Now, let number of electric cars in showroom Y = a
Then, according to the question,
a/4 + a = 7x
5a/4 = 7x
a = (7x × 4)/5
a = 5.6x
So, number of petrol cars in showroom Y = 7x - 5.6x
=> 1.4x
Now, number of petrol cars in showroom Z = 8x × 9/25 => 2.88x
And, number of electric cars in showroom Z = 8x × 16/25 => 5.12x
Total number of petrol cars in all the showroom =
1.8x + 1.4x + 2.88x = 6.08x
Total number of electric cars in all the showroom =
3.2x + 5.6x + 5.12x = 13.92x
Thus, the required percentage = (13.92x - 6.08x)/13.92x × 100
= 7.84x/13.92x × 100 ≈ 56%
Hence, the required answer = 56% (Approximately)

24. A bought two articles (A and B) he sold the article A at a profit of 40% and the article B at a loss of 15%. If the selling price of both the articles is equal i.e Rs 7140. Then find his overall profit or loss percentage.

Correct Answer: (e) 5.77%
Solution:

Let the CP of article A be a
And the CP of article B be b
CP of both the articles = 13500
And, total SP of two articles = Rs. (7140 + 7140)
= Rs. 14280
So, overall profit % = 780/13500 × 100 = 5.77%

25. Rahul spends 25% of his salary on education fees and 20% of the salary on House rent. From the remaining amount he spends on shopping to transport in the ratio of 4: 3 and the amount on transport is Rs.1100. What is the approximate salary of Rahul?

Correct Answer: (c) Rs.4667
Solution:

Salary = x
Amount spend on education fee and house rent = x × 25/100 × 20/100 = 45x/100
Remaining amount = 55x/100
1100/(55x/100 - 1100) = 3/4

4400 = 165x/100 - 3300
7700 = 165x/100
x = 4667

26. In a company one-fifth of the employees like cricket, 50% of the remaining employees like Football and 30% of the remaining employees like both Hockey and Golf but the remaining 70 employees like Tennis. Find the total number of employees in the company?

Correct Answer: (d) 250
Solution:

Number of employees like cricket = x/5
Number of employee like Football = 4x/5 × 50/100 = 2x/5
Number of employee like Hockey and Golf = 4x/5 × 50/100 × 30/100 = 3x/25
Number of employees like Tennis = 70
x - x/5 - 2x/5 - 3x/25 = 70
25x - 5x - 10x - 3x = 70 × 25
7x = 70 × 25
x = 250

Ques. If Rahul reads 40% of facebook messages which is 170 more than unread messages in whatsapp of Rahul. Then find the number of messages received by Rahul in facebook.

Correct Answer: (a) 2000
Solution:Unread messages of whatsapp = 35% of 1800
= 35/100 × 1800 = 630
According to question,
Total messages read by Rahul in facebook = 630 + 170 = 800
Now, 40% ↔ 800
100% ↔ x
Therefore, x = 100 × 800/40 = 2000
Hence, 2000 messages received by Rahul in facebook.

28. If total unread messages of Raju in whatsapp and facebook are 1398. Then find the percentage of read messages by Raju on whatsapp.

Correct Answer: (c) 70%
Solution:

Total unread messages of Rahul in whatsapp and facebook = 1398
Number of unread messages in facebook
= 60/100 × 1460 = 876
Number of unread messages in whatsapp
= 1398 - 876 = 522
Number of read messages on whatsapp
= 1740 - 522 = 1218
Therefore, percentage of read messages in whatsapp
= 1218/1740 × 100 = 70%

29. Find the total number of messages read by all the users in facebook. If number of messages read by Rahul in facebook is 4/3 times of messages read by Ravi in facebook and total read messages of Ravi in whatsapp and facebook are 45% of total messages of Rohit in whatsapp and facebook.

Correct Answer: (a) 2291
Solution:Number of messages read by Raju in facebook
= 40/100 × 1460 = 584
Total messages read by Ravi in whatsapp and facebook = 45% of (1200 + 800)
= 45/100 × 2000 = 900
Number of messages read by Ravi in whatsapp
= 30/100 × 1550 = 465
So, number of messages read by Ravi in facebook
= 900 - 465 = 435
Number of messages read by Rahul in facebook
= 4/3 × 435 = 580
Number of messages read by Rohit in facebook
= 37/100 × 800 = 296
Number of messages read by Ramesh = 27.5/100 × 1440 = 396
Total = (584 + 435 + 580 + 296 + 396) = 2291

30. The number of messages received by Ramesh in whatsapp is 85% of messages received by Raju in facebook and number of messages received by Rahul in facebook is 80% of unread messages of Ravi in whatsapp. The messages received by Rahul in facebook are what percentage less than the messages received by Ramesh in whatsapp. (No need to calculate the exact value)

Correct Answer: (a) 30%
Solution:

Number of messages received by Ramesh in whatsapp = 85/100 × 1460 = 1241
Number of messages received by Rahul in facebook
= 80/100 × 70/100 × 1550 = 868
So, required percentage = (1241 - 868)/1241 × 100
= 30.05% = 30% (approx)
