22. Match List-I with List-II and select the correct answer using the code given below the Lists:

List-I (Vegetation)List-II (Region)
A. Chaparrals1. North America
B. Maquis2. Southern Europe
C. Fynbos3. South Africa
D. Malle scrubs4. Australia

Code:ABCD
(a)1234
(b)1324
(c)4321
(d)4231
Correct Answer: (a)
Solution:The name chaparral is found in North America. Maquis is found in Southern Europe. It is scrubland vegetation of the Mediterranean region, composed primarily of leathery, broad-leaved evergreen shrubs or small trees.

Fynbos vegetation can be found throughout Table Mountain National Park, Western Cape, South Africa. Such vegetation is home to a variety of many animal species. It is also known for its plants. Malle scrubs are found in Australia. Therefore, the correct option is (a).

23. Which one of the following tiger reserves of India has 'Bhoorsingh the Barasingha' as its official mascot?

Correct Answer: (d) Kanha tiger reserve
Solution:The Kanha Tiger Reserve is located in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It is the first tiger reserve in India. It has an official mascot named Bhoorsingh the Barasingha. The deer is the state animal of Madhya Pradesh.

This reserve, spread over Mandla and Balaghat districts, is the only place in the world where the species exists. Some of the major animals found in the park are tigers, jackals and wild pigs can be spotted in Kanha Meadows. Therefore, the correct option is (d).

24. Which one of the following elements is present in the green pigment of leaves?

Correct Answer: (a) Magnesium
Solution:The element, Magnesium (Mg) is present in the green pigment of leaves. The most important role of magnesium is as the central atom in the chlorophyll molecule. The chlorophyll molecule consists of a central magnesium atom surrounded by a nitrogen-containing structure called a porphyrin ring; attached to the ring is a long carbon-hydrogen side chain, known as a phytol chain. Magnesium is mobile within the plant so signs of deficiency first occur in older leaves. Therefore, the correct option is (a).

25. Which one of the following is NOT correct about organic farming?

Correct Answer: (c) It uses minimal crop rotation
Solution:Organic farming is originated in the 20th century. It is defined as a type of farming in which crops, animals and other products are produced in the absence of chemical fertilisers, i.e., biological fertilizers such as compost manure, green manure, and bone meal. Organic farming emphasizes crop rotation and composting.

It uses ecologically protective practices along with traditional practices. Madhya Pradesh has the highest area of agriculture under organic certification among states. Therefore, the correct option is (c).

26. Which one of the following instruments is used for measuring moisture content of air?

Correct Answer: (b) Hygrometer
Solution:An instrument that is used to measure the amount of water vapour in the air, in soil or in confined spaces is known as a hygrometer. In 1480, a crude hygrometer was invented by Leonardo da Vinci and later Francesco Folli invented a more practical version of the device.

The instrument used for the measurement of humidity generally depends upon measurements of some other quantities such as temperature, pressure, and mass. Therefore, the correct option is (b).

27. Bronze is an alloy of copper and

Correct Answer: (c) tin
Solution:Bronze is an alloy composed of 88% copper and 12% tin. Alpha bronze consists of the alpha solid solution of tin in copper. It is of exceptional historical interest and still finds wide applications. It was made before 3000 ВСЕ, though its use in artefacts did not become common until much later.

It has both physical and chemical properties. Some modern bronzes contain no tin at all, substituting other metals such as aluminium, manganese, and even zinc. Therefore, the correct option is (c).

28. The length of a rectangle is increased by 60%. By what per cent would the width have to be decreased to maintain the same area?

Correct Answer: (a) 37.5%
Solution:Let the initial length of rectangle is 10 m and width is 10 m.

Then, area of rectangle = length × width

= 10 × 10 = 100 m²

When, length is increased by 60%.

Then, new length = 10 + (10×60)/100 = 16m

According to the question, 100 m² = 16 m × b

(where b is new width of rectangle)

⇒ b = 25/4 m

Required percent = (10-25/4)/10 × 100 = 15/4×100  × 100

= 37.5%

29. Two pipes A and B can fill a tank in 12 minutes and 16 minutes respectively. If both the pipes are opened together, then after how much time, B should be closed so that the tank is full in 9 minutes?

Correct Answer: (b) 4 min.
Solution:A can fill the tank = 12 minutes

B can fill the tank = 16 minutes

Capacity of tan k = LCM of 12 and 16 = 48 (unit)

If tank is full in 9 minutes, then A will fill the tank for 9 minutes.

∴ In 9 minutes A will fill the tank = 9 × 4 = 36 unit

Remaining tank = 48 - 36 = 12 unit

These 12 units will fill B = 12/3 = 4 min.

So, after 4 minutes, B should be closed.

30. One year ago, a father was four times as old as his son. After six years his age exceeds twice his son's age by 9 years. The ratio of their present age is

Correct Answer: (b) 11 : 3
Solution:Let the present age of father is x and son's y.

According to the question,

(x - 1) = 4(y - 1)

⇒ x = 4y - 3

And,

(x + 6) = 2(y + 6) + 9

⇒ x + 6 = 2y + 21

⇒ x = 2y + 15

Put the value of x from equation (1) in equation (2),

4y - 3 = 2y + 15

⇒ 2y = 18

⇒ y = 9 years

Put the value of y in equation (1),

x = 4 × 9 - 3

⇒ x = 33 years.

∴ Required ratio = 33/9 = 11 : 3
