Eutectoid steel–Eutectoid means most fusible. It is an alloy of two or more metals in which the proportion of the constituents is such that it has the lowest melting point in comparison to the constituent elements.

At a point (carbon 0.8%) where all of the ferrite is in combination with carbon, the structure is pearlite and this combination of iron and carbon is known as eutectoid steel.

In general depth of the plate girder is kept 1/10ᵗʰ to 1/12ᵗʰ of the span the distance between C.G. of compression flange and C.G. of tension flange is known as effective depth of plate girder

Types of truss girders–Various types of truss girders can be grouped under the following heads:

Spandrel beam is steel beam which supporting loads from the floor slab as well as from wall.

• It is also defined as exterior beam that stretches horizontally from one column to another column is known as spandrel beam.
• Spandrel beam add strength to the outside walls of a multistorey building.
• Lateral stiffness of steel and concrete constructions is increased by using these beams.

Span length is a disadvantage of framed structure because greater the span is liable to causes literal deflection. Hence the span is restricted to maximum of 13 m (40 ft).

Poisson's ratio– It is defined as the ratio of lateral strain to longitudinal strain.
