• It is situated in the Khasi Hills, a low mountain formation on the Shillong Plateau in Meghalaya.

• Mawsynram receives the highest rainfall in India and is the wettest place on the Earth. with an average annual rainfall of 11,872 millimetres.

• It is also the state animal of Manipur.

• Its original natural habitat is the floating marshy grass lands of the Keibul Lamjao National Park, located in the Loktak Lake.

• The river flows through the states of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

• It is one of only two major rivers in peninsular India that runs from east to west (longest west flowing river), along with the Tapti River.

• Dams are built to store water, meet irrigation requirements, and mitigate floodoriented disasters.

• Dams are also involved in hydroelectric power generation and in river navigation.

• Water can also be saved for future use when the demand for electricity is high hence the usage of water remains judicious.

• It is located on the river Wainganga in the Bhandara district.

• They help in the early ripening of mangoes, hence the name.

• They are also known as 'Kaal Baisakhi' in Bengal, as Bordoisila in Assam and as Cherry Blossom shower or Coffee Shower in Kerala.

• It is the world's only abode of Asiatic lions.

• The Asiatic lion's habitat is dry scrub land and open deciduous forest.

• It was started by Sundarlal Bahuguna in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttaranchal in 1973 against ruthless felling of trees and destruction of forests by contractors.
