• The canal passes through seven Rajasthan districts, namely Barmer, Bikaner, Churu, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Sriganganagar.

• The canal has not only provided irrigation facilities to these districts but also helped in turning barren deserts into rich and good fields.

• Mustard, cotton, and wheat crops are now growing in this semi arid region.

• This stretch measures about 320 km and it lies to the east of the Punjab Himalayas.

• Nangal Dam is another dam in Punjab downstream of Bhakra Dam.

• In terms of quantity of water, Bhakra Dam is the third largest reservoir in India after Indira Sagar dam in Madhya Pradesh and Nagarjuna sagar Dam.
