• It is part of the Sundarbans on the Ganges Delta and adjacent to the Sundarban Reserve Forest in Bangladesh.

• It is densely covered by mangrove forests and is one of the largest reserves for the Bengal tiger.

• The Union Territory of Lakshadweep does not have any notified forests though the forest cover is around 85%.

• About 82% of the land mass is covered by privately owned coconut plantations.

• It is known for Kudremukh that has the largest iron deposit in the world.

• They help in the early ripening of mangoes, hence the name.

• They are also known as 'Kaal Baisakhi' in Bengal, as Bordoisila in Assam and as Cherry Blossom shower or Coffee Shower in Kerala.

• It mainly originates in the large desert regions of the northwestern Indian subcontinent: the Great Indian Desert, the Cholistan Desert, and the desert areas of Southern Balochistan.

• Since it causes extremely low humidity and high temperatures, exposure to it often leads to fatal heat strokes.

• Harvesting of wood differs radically from harvesting of other crops since the yearly growth of each individual tree cannot be detached from the living plant.

• So, the harvesting of wood can be done keeping in view the rate of growth of forests.

• Initially started as a national park in 1982, it was inscribed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988.

• It was later expanded and renamed as Nanda Devi and Valley of Flowers National Parks in 2005.

• AMTS is India's largest Municipal Transport Service for local conveyance.

• It is a voluntary service managed by Amdavad Municipal Corporation under Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporations Act. Amdavad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) runs the public bus service in the city of Amdavad.

• It is about 7500 km² in area and is reputed to be one of the largest salt deserts in the world.

• It flows westwards over a length of 1.312 km before draining through the Gulf of Khambhat into the Arabian Sea, west of Bharuch city of Gujarat.

• It forms the traditional boundary between North India and South India.
