Historical Scenario (Chhattisgarh)

"Chitawa Dongari" of Rajnandgaon (Now Balod), Chhattisgarh is famous for prehistorical rock paintings. These rock paintings have a Chinese figure riding a donkey, figures of dragon and depictions of agricultural activity most of painting and art on the rocks give us an insight into the life of early human beings.

Rajnandgaon was an active place to live until the British came. In 1865, the British recognized the then ruler Mahant Ghasidas as the ruler of Rajnandgaon. He was conferred the title. Feudal Chief of Rajnandgaon and also was given Sanad, a right to adoption at later point of time.

Bhagwan Das Singh Baghel and Ramendranath Mishra had first discovered rock painting of Chitwa Dongri at Balod's in Chhattisgarh. At ChitwaDongri interesting depiction of Chinese human figure riding a donkey, picture of dragons and those of agriculture scenes are depicted.

The oldest drama theatre of the country is located at Sitabengra caves which is present in Sarguja district in the hills of Ramgarh. It is believed that during the exile Ram, Laxman and Sita stayed here. It has an inscription of 3rd Centuary B.C.

Sita Lekhani hill is located in Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh.

Singhanpur of Raigarh district is famous for cave paintings. These cave paintings were first discovered by Anderson in 1910. Other places of Chhattisgarh where cave paintings were found are - Kabra Pahar, Basanajhar, Ongana, Karmagarh, Khairpur and Amargufa. Cave paintings of human and animals have been found in Singhanpur.

Great Sanskrit Poet of 19th century Babu Rewaram was a resident of Ratanpur. He was born in 1812 in Ratanpur and his ancestors were Diwan of Kings of Haihaya dynasty. He is known for his works 'Gammat' and 'Rahans'.

Yati Yatan Lal was played a major role in Civil Disobedience Movement of 1930. Forest Satyagraha was launched in the leadership of Shankar Rao Ganaudwale and Yati Yatan Lal. He was associated with Vivek Vardhan Ashram in 1942. He became active in the promotion of Harijan Lalar Movement as per the instruction of Mahatma Gandhi.

Ramakrishna Mission Ashram was established in Narayanpur by Swami Aatmanand for the welfare of the tribal people of Abujhmarh of Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. It is started 1985.

'Bahadur Kalarin Ki Machi' is an ancient monument located in Balod district. It is pavilion of dilapidated pillars.
