• It was done in accordance with the recommendations of Balwant Rai Mehta Committee that was appointed by the Government of India in January 1957.

• Balwant Rai Mehata committee Recommended three tier panchayati Raj institutions.

• Those languages are Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada. Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

• The court ruled that Right to Privacy is an integral part of Right to Life and Personal Liberty under Part III of the constitution.

• The landmark decision was delivered in the case of Puttuswamy v. Union of India.

• Thus, it raised the total number of languages listed in the schedule to fifteen.

• Konkani, Manipuri and Nepali were included by 71 amendment act of 1992.

• Bodo, Dogri maithili and santhali were added by 92 Amendment act of 2003.

• At Present time eight schedule to the constitution cansist of the 22 languages.

• Originally ten in number, the Fundamental Duties were increased to eleven by the 86th Amendment in 2002.

• The chief justice is appointed by the president after consultation with such judges of the Supreme Court and high courts as he deems necessary.

• The scheme was inaugurated by Prime Minister Nehru in Nagaur district of Rajasthan on 2nd October 1959.

• It is responsible for Model code of conduct implemented in elections for local bodies, updating Electoral rolls with new additions or removals.

• President is the head of the State while Prime Minister is the head of the government.
