Solution:Nilgiri Hills are situated at the meeting point of the Eastern Ghats of the Indian Peninsula. Nilgiri Hills are also known as the Blue Mountains. Its highest peak is Doddabetta (about 2637m). Nilgiri hills are a part of the Western Ghats down in the south and Doda Beta is the highest peak here.The hills are located at the tri-junction of the states Karnataka, Kerela and Tamil Nadu. These mountains are named after the Neelakurunji flowers (purplish-blue flowers) found in Shola forests of Nilgiri hills.
The vegetation ranges from the Evergreen forests to the Shola Grasslands and thorny bushes. It is the habitat of the endangered species, the Nilgiri Tahr. Todas, Kurumbas, Paniyas and Adiyans are the tribes living here.
The Mudumalai and Waynad wildlife sanctuaries, Bandipore National park, Nagarhole national park, Mukurthi national park and Silent valley national park are a part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Bhavani, Moyar, Kabini, Chaliyar and Punampuzha rivers drain these mountains. Pamir Knot (Tibet) is known as the 'Roof of the world'.
