The evidence of the transition from the huntergatherer economy to the producer economy in the Indian subcontinent comes from many archaeological sites. Man started to involve himself in agricultural activities. The evidences from excavations have revealed sites related to early farming communities from Mehrgarh in North, Budihal and Paiyampalli from South. Daojali Hading from eastern India along with sites such as Lahuradeva, Tokwa, Jhusi, Koldihawa etc. Paddy is the earliest crop obtained from these sites.
