Political Scenario (Bihar)

• The first Indian Ministry in Bihar in 1937 came into existence under leadership of Md. Yunus. Mohammad Yunus was the first Prime Minister of Bihar in British India.

• As per the Government of India act 1935, Provincial legislative assembly elections result were declared in February 1937. In July 1937, Congress formed government in six provinces. These provinces were – Madras, Bombay, Central Province, Odisha, Bihar and United Province. The elected government of Bihar resigned in February 1938 for release of political prisoners, which was one of the main objectives of Congress during election.

• Sachchidananda Sinha is considered to be the creator of Modern Bihar. He was a famous advocate and an active member of the Indian National Congress. He participated in the Home Rule League Movement. He was also a leading journalist and an educationist. He was the first president of the constituent assembly(Interim).

• On 10 May, 2004 the Election commission countermanded the elections held in Chhapra following the allegation of rigging. Re-poll was done on 31 May, 2004.

• On 25th September, 2020, the Election commission of India issue a press note for the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Bihar, 2020. The election conducted in three phases.

In the Bihar Assembly election held in February, 2000, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) secured 124 seats. However, since RJD is not a national political party; Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) which secured 67 seats was considered the National Political Party with maximum seats in Bihar Assembly election.

Bihar Politician Late Raghuvansh Prasad Singh was for the first time elected from Vaishali in 11th Lok Sabha.

By the end of the year 1995, the total number of districts in Bihar was 55. With the formation of Jharkhand (18 districts) on 15 November, 2000, only 37 districts were left in Bihar. After the creation of Arwal district, earlier a part of Jehanabad district, the number of districts in Bihar is 38.
