The Government of India, Ministry of Finance, Department of Financial Services through its Alternative Mechanism (AM), in November 2019, accorded its in-principle approval to the proposed amalgamation of Corporation Bank and Andhra Bank into Union Bank of India as the transferee bank and Corporation Bank and Andhra Bank as transferor bank(s).

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is headquartered at Gwal Pahari, Gurugram, Haryana, India.

• ISA is an alliance of 121 countries initiated by India, most of them being sunshine countries, which lie either completely or partly between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
• The primary objective of the alliance is to work for efficient exploitation of solar energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Former Indian skipper Mithali Raj in October 2019 became the first woman cricketer to have an international career lasting more than 20 years.

• She achieved the feat during the first ODI of the three-match series between India and South Africa at the Reliance Stadium in Vadodara.
• Mithali made her ODI debut against Ireland on June 26, 1999.

Jenny Gunn is an English cricketer who retired from international cricket in October 2019.

• Gunn was a member of the winning women’s team at the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup held in England.
• In March 2018, during the 2018 Women’s T20I Tri Nations Series in India, Gunn became the first cricketer, male or female, to play in 100 T20 International matches.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 11 October 2019 introduced a new reporting system — the Central Information System for Banking Infrastructure (CISBI) — for all co-operative banks.

• Under this system, these banks are required to submit information pertaining to opening/closing/conversion of branches, offices, non-administratively independent offices (extension counters, satellite offices), and customer service points (ATMs) in a single proforma online on the CISBI portal.

Freetown is the capital and largest city of Sierra Leone.

• It is a major port city on the Atlantic Ocean.
• Freetown is Sierra Leone’s major urban, economic, financial, cultural, educational, and political centre, as it is the seat of the Government of Sierra Leone.
•  India and Sierra Leone signed six agreements for cooperation in various fields during Venkaiah Naidu’s visit.

The Nobel Peace Prize for 2019 was, on 11 October 2019, awarded to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea.”

• Ali was awarded for restoring Ethiopia’s relations with Eritrea (in July 2018), after years of hostility.
• The two longtime foes fought a border war from 1998 to 2000.
• Ali, the youngest head of government in Africa, became the first Ethiopian to be awarded a Nobel Prize.

Nakki Lake is a lake situated in the Indian hill station of Mount Abu in Aravalli range in Rajasthan.

• The lake is in length of about a half mile and in width about of a quarter of mile and 20 to 30 ft. deep towards the dam on the west.
• It is an important tourist attraction of Mount Abu.
