14. A, B and C started a business with investments of Rs. 1,600, Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 1800 respectively. After 6 months from the start of the business, A invested Rs. 200 more. After 8 months from the start of the business, B and C invested additional amounts in the respective ratio of 4:1. If they received an annual profit of Rs. 3780 and A's share in the profit is Rs. 10,810, what was the additional amount that C invested?

Correct Answer: (5) Rs. 270
Solution:Ratio of the equivalent capitals of A, B, and C for 1 month
= (1600 6 + 1800 6) : [C2000 8)+(2000 + 4x) 4] : [1800 8 + (1800 + x) 4]
= (9600 + 10800) : (16000 + 8000 + 16x) : (14400 + 7200 + 4x)
= 20400 : 24000 + 16x : 21600 + 4x
= 5100 : 6000 + 4x : 5400 + x
Sum of the terms of ratio
= 5100 + 6000 + 4x + 5400 + x
= 16500 + 5x

15. In each of the following questions, a number series is given. Only one number is wrong which doesn't fit in the series. Find out the wrong number.

10 4 3 3.5 6 15 41

Correct Answer: (2) 15
Solution:The pattern is :

16. In each of the following questions, a number series is given. Only one number is wrong which doesn't fit in the series. Find out the wrong number.

5040 720 120 24 6 3 1

Correct Answer: (1) 3
Solution:The pattern is :
5040 7 = 720
720 6 = 120
120 5 = 24
24 4 = 6
6 3 = 2 ≠ 3
2 2 = 1

17. In each of the following questions, a number series is given. Only one number is wrong which doesn't fit in the series. Find out the wrong number.

140 157 193 242 310 395 497

Correct Answer: (2) 193
Solution:The pattern is :
140 + 17 1 = 157
157 + 17 2 = 157 + 34
= 191 ≠ 193
191 + 17 3 = 191 + 51 = 242
242 + 17 4 = 242 + 68 = 310
310 + 17 5 = 310 + 85 = 395
395 + 17 6 = 395 + 102 = 497

18. In each of the following questions, a number series is given. Only one number is wrong which doesn't fit in the series. Find out the wrong number.

150 148 143 133 116 80 53

Correct Answer: (3) 80
Solution:The pattern is :
150 - 2 = 148
148 - 5 (= 2 + 3) = 143
143 - 10 (= 5 + 5) = 133
133 - 17 (= 10 + 7) = 116
116 - 26 (= 17 + 9)
= 90 ≠ 80
90 - 37 (= 26 + 11) = 53

19. In each of the following questions, a number series is given. Only one number is wrong which doesn't fit in the series. Find out the wrong number.

5 4 6 15 56 285 1644

Correct Answer: (2) 285
Solution:The pattern is :
5 1 - 1 = 5 - 1 = 5
4 2 - 2 = 8 - 2 = 6
6 3 - 3 = 18 - 3 = 15
15 4 - 4 = 60 - 4 = 56
56 5 - 5 = 280 - 5 = 275 ≠ 285
275 6 - 6 = 1650 - 6 = 1644

20. Three years ago, Raj's age was equal to the sum of the present ages of his only son and only daughter. Three years ago, the respective ratio between the ages of his daughter and his son that time was 12:13. if Raj's wife is 5 years younger to him and her present age is twice the present age of their daughter, what is the present age of their son? (in years)

Correct Answer: (5) 25 years
Solution:3 years ago,
Daughter's age = 12x years
Son's age = 13x years
Raj's present age
= 12x + 13x + 3 + 6
= (25x + 9) years
Raj's wife's present age
= (25x + 9) - 5 years
= (25x + 4) years
According to the question,
25x + 4 = 2(12x + 3)
25x - 24x = 6 - 4
x = 2
Son's present age
= 13 x + 3
= (13 2 + 3) years
= 29 years
