RBI OFFICER GRADE ‘B’ PHASE-I EXAM Held on : 28.05.2022 (Part-II)

Total Questions: 50

21. Read the following paragraph (Caselet) carefully and answer the questions given below:

From the question (21-25)
A Television manufacturer has furnished the following details about TV sets that were sold by FIVE different sellers on SEVEN different days. The retail sellers are P, Q, R, S and T in the SAME order. The sales figures are obtained for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the same order.
P sold 45, 40, 28, 48, 20, 20 and 24 sets of TVs on the given days respectively.
Q sold 92, 90, 12, 27, 16, 26 and 98 sets of TVs on the given days respectively.
R sold 36, 80, 13, 30, 38, 47 and 62 sets of TVs on the given days respectively.
S sold 46, 60, 64, 12, 52, 76 and 34 sets of TVs on the given days respectively.
T sold 18, 48, 69, 58, 80, 15 and 10 sets of TVs on the given days respectively.
If the TVs sold by P on Wednesday are of two types X and Y and sold in ratio 3 : 4, find the number of Y type TVs sold by P on Wednesday.

Correct Answer: (4) 16
Solution:

Televisions sold by P on Wednesday = 28
Out of 28, X and Y type televisions are in the ratio of 3 : 4.
∴ Number of Y type TVs sold

22. Study the above information carefully and answer the questions.

What is the average number of TVs sold by Q on Thursday, by T on Saturday and S on Tuesday?

Correct Answer: (2) 34
Solution:

Required average

23. Study the above information carefully and answer the questions.

What is the ratio of the number of TVs sold by Q on Monday and Sunday together to the number of TVs sold by R on Wednesday and Saturday together?

Correct Answer: (3) 19 : 6
Solution:

Number of TVs Sold by Q on Monday and Sunday
= 92 + 98 = 190
Number of TVs sold by R on Wednesday and Saturday
= 13 + 47 = 60
Required ratio = 190 : 60
= 19 : 6

24. Study the above information carefully and answer the questions.

What is the difference between the number of TV sets sold by P and R together on Tuesday and the number of TV sets sold by S and T together on Thursday?

Correct Answer: (3) 50
Solution:

Number of TV sets sold by
P and R together on Tuesday
= 40 + 80 = 120
Number of TV sets sold by S
and T together on Thursday
= 12 + 58 = 70
Required difference = 120 – 70
= 50

25. Study the above information carefully and answer the questions.

The number of televisions sold by P and S together on Thursday is what percent of the number of TV sets sold by T on Saturday?

Correct Answer: (4) 400%
Solution:

Number of TVs sold by P
and S together on Thursday =
48 + 12 = 60
Number of TVs sold by T on Saturday = 15

= 400%

26. In each of the following questions, two equations I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and

From the questions (26-30)
Give answer (1)
if x > y
Give answer (2) if x < y
Give answer (3) if x ≥ y
Give answer (4) if x ≤ y
Give answer (5) if x = y or relationship between x and y cannot be established.
I. 8x² + 14x – 39 = 0
  II. 14y² – 89y + 95 = 0

Correct Answer: (5)
Solution:

I. 8x² + 14x – 39 = 0
⇒ 8x² + 26x – 12x – 39 = 0
⇒ 2x (4x + 13) – 3 (4x + 13) = 0
⇒ (2x – 3) (4x + 13) = 0
⇒ 2x – 3 = 0 or 4x + 13 = 0

II. 14y² – 89y + 95 = 0
⇒ 14y² – 70y – 19y + 95 = 0
⇒ 14y (y – 5) – 19 (y – 5) = 0
⇒ (y – 5) (14y – 19) = 0
⇒ y – 5 = 0 or, 14y – 19 = 0

27. Study the above information carefully and answer the questions.

I. 5x² – 16x – 16 = 0
  II. 17x² – 88x + 80 = 0

Correct Answer: (4)
Solution:

I. 5x² – 16x – 16 = 0
⇒ 5x² – 20x + 4x – 16 = 0
⇒ 5x (x – 4) + 4 (x – 4) = 0
⇒ (5x + 4) (x – 4) = 0
⇒ x = – 4/5 or 4 = –0.8 or 4
II. 17y² – 88x + 80 = 0
⇒ 17y² – 68y – 20y + 80 = 0
⇒ 17y (y – 4) – 20 (y – 4) = 0
⇒ (y – y) (17y – 20) = 0
⇒ y = 4 or 20/17 = 4 or 1.17

28. Study the above information carefully and answer the questions.

I. x² – 0.5x – 39 = 0
  II. y² – 15.5y + 60 = 0

Correct Answer: (2)
Solution:

I. x² – 0.5x – 39 = 0
⇒ x² + 6x – 6.5x – 39 = 0
⇒ x (x + 6) – 6.5 (x + 6) = 0
⇒ (x – 6.5) (x + 6) = 0
⇒ x² = 6.5 or –6
II. y² – 15.5y + 60 = 0
⇒ y² – 8y – 7.5y + 60 = 0
⇒ y (y – 8) – 7.5 (y – 8) = 0
⇒ (y – 8) (y – 7.5) = 0
⇒ y = 7.5 or 8
Clearly, x < y

29. What value should come in place of question mark (?) in the following number series?

32, 48, 24, 36, 18, ?

Correct Answer: (4) 27
Solution:

The pattern is :
32 × 1.5 = 48
48 ÷ 2 = 24
24 × 1.5 = 36
36 ÷ 2 = 18
18 × 1.5 = [27]

30. What value should come in place of question mark (?) in the following number series?

126, 247, 416, 641, ?, 1291

Correct Answer: (1) 930
Solution:

The pattern is :
126 + 11² = 126 + 121 = 247
247 + 13² = 247 + 169 = 416
416 + 15² = 416 + 225 = 641
641 + 17² = 641 + 289 = [930]
930 + 19² = 930 + 361 = 1291
