Solution:*The Constitution provides that there shall be uniformity in the scale of representation of different states as well as parity between the states as a whole and the Union in the election of the President. Hence it can be expressed as -(i)Value of the vote of an MLA= Total Population of the State ÷ Total numbers of elected members in the state legislative assembly × 1000
The vote-value of each MLA varies from the state to state due to the different population of each state and the total number of the elected members. For example, the value of vote of each MLA of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly is 8, Whereas the value of vote of each MLA of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly is 208. Hence, statement (1) is correct. (ii) The following formula is used to calculate the vote value of a member of Parliament-
Sum of vote value of elected members of all state Legislative Assemblies ÷ Number of elected members of both houses (Lok Sabha + Rajya Sabha) of the Parliament
Therefore, it is clear that the value of each member of the Lok Sabha and each member of the Rajya Sabha is the same. If, the vote value of one member is to be counted, the value of the vote of each member of both houses is the same. Hence statement (2) is wrong.
