Mrs ABC visited a PHC with her two kids aged 18 months and 1.5 months respectively.
The mother complained that the elder child was having moderate fever, sneezing with nasal discharge, red eyes, diarrhoea and rashes on the body for the last 3 days.
The younger child also had sneezing but no other symptoms, for the same duration. On examination, the rash was maculopapular; started behind the ears and then had spread on the face and it extended down the body gradually.
Oral examination showed small, bluish-white spots on a red base opposite to the lower second molar teeth. The eye examination revealed triangular yellow foamy spots on the bilateral bulbar conjunctiva.
The examination of younger child did not show any significant finding. Both kids had not have received any vaccines to date but the mother allowed only one vaccine at a time to each child.
The elder kid was given treatment including an age-appropriate dose of vitamin A. On investigation, 10 children with a similar presentation were found in the same village. For the same duration, there was not a single case reported last year.
