The Koyna Dam is built across the Koyna River in the state of Maharashtra. Koyna River originates in Mahabaleshwar hills. The location of other dams is as follows:

Bisalpur Dam -Rajasthan (Banas River)

Almatti Dam - Karnataka (Krishna River)

Mettur Dam - Tamil Nadu (Kaveri River)

The Linganamakki Dam is built across the Sharavati River. It is located in Karnataka.

The largest irrigation canal in India is the Indira Gandhi Canal. Indira Gandhi Canal Project is one of the biggest projects in the world. It originates at Harike Barrage (Punjab). It supplies water the areas in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

The channel of the canal where the water is forced to flow against the slope of the land by lifting is called the lift channel.

Bhakra Nangal Project is situated across the Sutlej River. This multi-purpose project was a joint venture between the states of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. Under this project, two dams have been completed on the Satluj river near Bhakra and Nangal.

Sardar Sarovar Dam was built across the Narmada River in the state of Gujarat. The Sardar Sarovar Dam has a height of 138.68 m (455 ft) and a length of 1210 m. This dam is the third highest (height 163 m from the base level) concrete dam in India. The dam was dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister in September 2017. Large states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan are connected to it for supply of water. Its objective is to expand access to water and generate electricity for the drought-prone areas of these states.
